Book Review: Merry Ex-Mas

Merry Ex-Mas (Life in Icicle Falls, #2)Author: Shelia Roberts
Publication Date: October 29, 2013

Series: Life in Icicle Falls #2

Christmas in Icicle Falls…

Cass Wilkes, owner of the Gingerbread Haus bakery, was looking forward to her daughter Danielle's wedding—until Dani announced that she wants her father, Cass's ex, to walk her down the aisle. Seriously? Even worse, it appears that he, his trophy wife and their yappy little dog will be staying with Cass…

Her friend Charlene Albach arrives at their weekly chick-flick night in shock. She's just seen the ghost of Christmas past: her ex-husband, Richard, who left a year ago when he ran off with the hostess from her restaurant, Zelda's. Now the hostess is history and he wants to kiss and make up. Hide the mistletoe!

And bring out the hot buttered rum, because the holidays aren't easy for Ella O'Brien, either. Ella, newly divorced, is still sharing the house with her ex while they wait for the place to sell. The love is gone. Isn't it?

But watch as Christmas brings all kinds of surprises…

Merry Ex-mas, ladies!

Once in a while, if a woman is really lucky, the perfect day she envisioned turns out to be just that.

Exes were a part of life. She'd put on her big-girl panties and cope.

There was no recipe for a perfect family, though. Unlike flour, sugar, butter and eggs, people were unpredictable and often uncooperative.

Christmastime is near in Icicle Falls, Washington, but for Ella, Charley, and Cass the holidays aren’t looking so merry and bright. Each of these women is facing some life obstacle that has put a pretty big damper on their holiday spirit. Christmas is not looking like it will be a very enjoyable time for any of these women, but is there enough time to turn things around? Join Shelia Roberts, a phenomenal storyteller, as she takes you on a journey through a magical little time with some awesome surprises just in time for Christmas!

Icicle Falls is a place that I would love to move to, despite the cold. Shelia Roberts writes this cozy, adorable town full of welcoming people, places, and faces. It is a small town, which I come from, that holds cute shops and the incredibly nice people that run them. The setting allows these three women to feel more personable to me. Small towns where everyone knows everyone’s business is not always a good thing, but in books like this one it makes for some wonderful entertainment and discussion behind the scenes!

I love books that follow more than one perspective. These three women are all facing a less than thrilling situation that somehow involves their exes! And can I just say that I love the cover of this book and the title?! So charming! I am not going to spell out each of their situations because they can be pretty in-depth, but I will encourage you to go out and pick up a copy of this book just in time for the holiday season. I was able to connect with each of these women in some fashion!
