Book Review: Make You Mine

Make You Mine (Dumont Bachelors, #1)Author: Macy Beckett
Publication Date: May 6, 2014
Publisher: Signet
Series: Dumont Bachelors # 1

For ninety-nine years, every man in the Dumont family has remained a perpetual bachelor. Residents of Cedar Bayou, Louisiana, whisper about a voodoo hex cast upon the family, sabotaging each man’s chance at marriage. In truth, the Dumont men have their own player personalities to blame, and Marc is no exception. As captain of his family’s riverboat, he’s broken hearts up and down the Mississippi. That is, until his high school crush strolls onboard...

Allie Mauvais rocks the boat when she fills in as pastry chef. She hasn’t seen Marc since senior year, when rumors flew that her great-great-grandmother was the one who cursed the Dumonts. After two weeks on the water, neither can deny the attraction that still burns between them. But to truly reach Marc’s heart, Allie must show him that the hex isn’t real, and it’ll take more than her mouthwatering sweets to prove it. Will Allie’s love be enough to finally make Marc hers?

Allie’s mama and daddy, God rest their souls, used to say South Louisiana in August was hotter that a two-pricked goat in a pepper patch.

“I’m a grown woman,” Allie reminded her ever so slightly older sister. “I can get freaky with whoever I want!”

“Aha!” Devyn cried, waving the lacy frock at her. “I was right! You want to get freaky with Marc!”
Join me in welcoming in this brand new series by Macy Beckett, in which she tells the story of the Dumont Bachelors, a line a men who have supposedly been cursed for many years. Allie Mauvais is our heroine who essentially falls in love with Marc Dumont and attempts breaking this so-called “curse.” Allie knows that Marc will be a tough cookie to crack because, well Allie and Marc have a history together. You see, there is way more to the story than I first mentioned. Allie’s great grandmother actually place the curse on the Dumont men because one of them left her at the altar!

This story is so fun and exciting and I really believe this is going to be an awesome series. It reminds me a lot of Jennifer Bernard’s series called The San Gabriel Bachelor Firemen! I am in love with those books, I own every single one, and I am here to say that this series left me with the same feeling. I was really intrigued by the Louisiana setting, as I always love to hear about things happening on the Bayou!

Marc and Allie cannot deny their feelings for one another! And not only do we have two awesome characters in these two, but Macy gives us a cast of amazing secondary characters as well. In the next installment in this series we were be hearing Devyn and Beau’s story. I love series like this that build one on top of the other! Be sure to scroll down and read my short and sweet interview with author, Macy Beckett!

***A free copy of this book was provided to me by the publishers at Signet in exchange for my honest review***

1. What was your inspiration for starting this brand new series?
My agent suggested that I set a new series in New Orleans. When I traveled there for research, I took a boat tour of the bayou and totally fell in love! It was so different than what I had expected. Not swampy and dank, but lush and filled with life. Inspiration struck, and that's when Cedar Bayou was born.

2. What was your favorite part about writing this book?
Like Allie, I have a fascination with the inner workings of the human mind. (True story: I originally declared pre-med as my major in college, because I wanted to be a psychiatrist.) So I had a lot of fun writing Allie's interactions with her voodoo customers, and how she gently manipulated them into making positive life choices.

3. Do you ever base your characters off of actual people you know?
No, but there is a little bit of myself in each heroine I write. (For example, see above.)

4. And now for the question we all want to know, can you tell us about the next book in this series? Including when it might be published?

You bet! The next book in the series is called MAKE YOU REMEMBER, and it releases November 3rd. (Now available for pre-order...just sayin'.) This is Devyn and Beau's story, but you'll get to see the whole Dumont gang again, including Allie and Marc and our favorite "best friends" Alex and Ella-Claire.
